Civil War journal, 1862-1878 (inclusive).

"Civil War journal extracts, 1862-1865, consisting of full, well-written accounts of various experiences and observations connected with his service, 1862-1864, as captain of Company H, 7th Infantry Regiment, New Jersey Volunteers, and his service, 1865, in Company B, 40th Infantry Regiment, New Jersey Volunteers. The journal entries were copied (with revisions?) ca. 1876 from his wartime journal into a volume of records (lists, accounts, etc.) connected with Hopkins' recruiting activities (on detached duty, November 1863-April 1864) at Morristown, Morris County, New Jersey. Inserted into the volume are many official directives, orders, letters, memoranda, and clippings (through ca. 1878), chiefly relating to his personal duties and experiences during the war."
